On Wednesday July 8th we met with Robert Costagliola
to present to him the list of contractors and retirees
still working in our jurisdiction while being on furlough.
Bob will review all the documents and will give us his decision.
If we are not satisfied we will proceed to arbitration.
On your furlough day, if the company has you working past the
7th hour you must be paid at time and a half. Also if the
company changes your tour or furlough time less than
18 hrs notice, all time outside of the tour you were to work
as of the preceding Friday will be paid at the OT rate of pay.
If you work during your furlough time is considerd OT and they
can not change furlough to a different day for that week.
On Thursday August 6th we had a third step grievance regarding
contractors, temps, retiree members and door to door to workers.
The company is stating that they are following Article 16.03, whereas the
union's position is that they are not following Article 16.03 and that as
long as we are on furlough all these workers should be removed.
The company has also stated that in 2008 in the Unit 43's area they had a
total of 19 contractors whereas in 2009 they have 3. We asked for Unit 4
and Unit 12's numbers and they have to get those for us. The company and
union will have a conference call on Monday August 17th. If we are still not
satified will proceed to Arbitration. The remedy we will be looking for
is all contractors removed and our furlough time paid back for the time all
the above workers were on site working.
